Our Origin Story
For many years, the old barn withstood the test of time; generations had worked and played in its shelter, but all those years of wind and weather had taken its toll. The siding was cracked and weathered, and the roof had sprung more than a few leaks. Finally, the decision was made to replace it, but what to do with all the old lumber and tin? The old fence definitely needs to be replaced, and a few of the outbuildings need new roofs. Surely all of these old boards and roofing needn’t go to the landfill! Or how about the company that replaces old privacy fences and decks? Is that material going to end up in the dumpster?
In 1999, a young craftsman was building small furniture and other crafts in his spare time when he asked a neighbor if he could use the lumber from a shed he had just torn down. Using those reclaimed boards, he created the first few styles of what would become a full product line of birdhouses, planters, benches, and more, all made with reclaimed wood. Today, Summitville Woodworking provides a drop-off site for fence and decking companies as well as individuals in the community to take their unwanted rustic tin and lumber. Then their crew of workers and subworkers craft unique, quality, handmade items to brighten up your backyard, attract and feed the birds, and decorate your front porch or desk.
Since these items are made with reclaimed materials, each piece is unique. Expect slight variations!
Each Small Craft Shop is family-owned!
Plowcraft is the brainchild of a local Lancaster County craftsman who has been creating sought-after items in his small craft shop next to his home for many years. Like many similar shops, wholesale sales have been the main outlet for these unique items. Items you may be able to find on Wayfair, Etsy, and even Amazon. Items that have their own down-home appeal. Built by caring craftsmen who love to pay attention to detail.
For some time, it has been our desire to make these creations available on a broader platform directly to the consumer. Along with that desire is providing a way for similar small shops to make these quality products available, first of all locally, then to an ever-expanding customer base. With the availability and convenience of the internet helping us along, we are happy to be able, for the first time, to offer these items directly from each of these individual, small local shops to you. Our crafts vary from items made with reclaimed wood to those made with recycled poly lumber. Whether in the form of a practical birdhouse or a whimsical addition to your decor, all of these items are guaranteed to last.
We believe in the Golden Rule way of doing business. We promise to always treat each customer the way we ourselves would like to be treated. We desire to satisfy your needs and promise to do our best to serve you in a way that meets or exceeds your expectations. Each individually owned small craft shop is grateful for your patronage. Thank you for considering Plowcraft products.
We welcome your input. Email us today, or give us a call. We’ll be happy to help you find exactly what you’re looking for in wooden, poly*, or reclaimed crafts!
